1. Glencore, South Africa:
Glencore’s output of ferrochrome in the fourth quarter of 2022 was 378000 tons, an increase of 16.7% on a month-on-month basis. The total output of ferrochrome in 2022 reached 1488000 tons, an increase of 1.36% on a year-on-year basis. The output of ferrochrome is expected to remain stable in 2023.
2. Merafe Resources, South Africa:
In 2022, the annual output of Merafe ferrochrome will be 384000 tons, with a year-on-year increase of about 1.32%. Although the power restriction of Eskom Electric Power Company in South Africa affected the operation of the enterprise in the third and fourth quarters, the annual production of ferrochrome still reached the production level.
3. India IMFA:
In the fourth quarter of 2022, Indian IMFA’s ferrochrome output was 61000 tons, a decrease of 1.61% on a month-on-month basis. The total ferrochrome output in 2022 was 246000 tons, a decrease of 5.32% on a year-on-year basis.
4. Outokumpu, Finland:
In the fourth quarter of 2022, Finnish stainless steel producer (Outokumpu) produced 69000 tons of ferrochrome, down 3.4% month-on-month and 45% year-on-year. In 2022, the total output of ferrochrome was 430000 tons, down 17% year-on-year. The reason for the significant reduction in production is that the abnormally high electricity price caused by the European energy crisis led to the shutdown of the plant and the optimization of ferrochrome production capacity. Due to the failure of one ferrochrome furnace and the restart of the other ferrochrome furnace on February 15, 2023, the ferrochrome production is expected to remain 50-60% of the total production capacity in the first quarter of 2023.
